INFORMATION.

Unlike most of Final Fantasy Tactics cast, Ruvelia doesn't actually... appear in Final Fantasy Tactics. She has no in-game sprite or stats, and the only appearances she makes are in tavern rumors or in the game's character bio entries. Still, I find her a compelling character despite her overall absence from the story. In a game about a succession war, so much of the plot we actually see hinges on Ruvelia and her son's claim to power, and in a game where most female characters are beset maidens or virtuous lady knights, it's refreshing to see a (relatively) older woman in power whose motives are less than clear and less than kind.

Here, you can read transcripts of what little text we have concerning Ruvelia in game, as well as a brief discussion of Ruvelia's historical inspiration: Margaret of Anjou.
