BASE

Written on August 29, 2021 (♍︎)

Author's Notes: Written for Algus' birthday.

Algus marvels at how close they seem in the chain of being: a disgraced noble and an elevated stable boy. It must not be so. As he watches a groomsman wash down a bright-feathered courser, it pleases him to think of Delita as but another of House Beoulve's animals. It is a little sin to indulge and pamper some brute bred for your pleasure. When he allows the boy his liberties, he tells himself it is thus: that every intertwining of their bodies is service to him and spoilation to Delita—that he is not debased by what base creatures do.
