Author's Notes: Written for Algus' birthday.

His mother tells him that the Gods will judge him only by his own sins: that he need not wear his name like a curse. He tells her she is very kind. When he realizes that she is not as knowledgeable of the world as a child imagines its parents, he tries to be kind in turn.

Algus makes his griefs silent, small, compact. It vexes him when she discovers them. When she tells him he could take her surname instead, she does not catch him weeping, miserable at her absurdities. He cannot explain he will not be her legacy.
