NIGHTMARES

Author's Notes: Written for Whumptober 2021 for prompt No. 28: It's Not Just In Your Head (Nightmares). Also... did you know that Alphonse Delacroix had a wife and child who were murdered by a heretic? I sure didn't until I checked his character bio for the brief period time this fact is mentioned between Zirekile Falls and Lionel Caste.
Taking on the cloth had not drawn any veil over the past, and Alphonse found with the passing of years brought no quiet. Night after night he saw the same faces and the same players: a soldier, a wife, a child, a heretic. The last could carry his desire even if the others could not retain it. He had come to delight in torments, to see young sinners bear the agonies of the flame.
It was, perhaps a punishment offered in advance of the sin, that he should suffer nightmares until he made them real and gifted them to others.
