CHAPTER I: REED PIPE

Reed pipe: While heading for Fort Zeakden, in a sunset field, Delita stopped and pondered his identity. You, who couldn't any [sic] give words of wisdom, felt powerless. Delita then began to play a reed flute, a skill he learned from Balbanes...』

[Delita and Ramza sit on a hill in the Mandalian Plains. It is sunset.]

DELITA: Beautiful. Somewhere Teta's watching the same sunset.

[Ramza turns to him.]

RAMZA: ....Don't worry, Delita. I'm sure she is OK.

[Ramza turns back to look at the sky.]

DELITA: ....I've felt out of place for a long time.

[Ramza looks to him again.]

RAMZA: Are you thinking about what Algus said?

[Delita closes his eyes.]

DELITA: I guess there are things you can't change, no matter what.

RAMZA: Don't say that. If you put effort into it...

[Ramza looks to the ground, Delita to his hands.]

DELITA: Could I be a general if I tried hard enough? I want to rescue Teta on my own, but I can't do a thing. I'm 'useless'....

[He puts a hand to his head and closes his eyes again. Ramza turns to him once more.]

RAMZA: ....................

[After a moment, Delita picks a piece of grass from the ground; he shows it to Ramza.]

DELITA: Remember how father taught us to play that reed flute?

[He blows on the grass, making a high-pitched noise. Ramza plucks a piece of grass and whistles on it as well.]
