CHAPTER III: BATTLE AT YARDOW FORT CITY
[The magician who Ramza encountered previously in Dorter is engaged in an argument with a young woman of similar garb and appearance.]
EXOTIC WIZARD: You know what you're saying?
RAFA: You're the one who doesn't. We're not tools. Tools for murder! If we stay here, we'll be used as tools till we die! Come on, Malak! Let's escape together!
MALAK: Who helped us when we lost our parents in the war? If Grand Duke hadn't saved us, we'd have starved... He cared about us...Now you're returning the favor with vengeance?
[Rafa shakes her head.]
RAFA: You've been deceived! Barinten took advantage of war and burned the village! Why? To get the family skills only our family knows. He burned a village to get my Heaven skill and your Hell skill! He killed our parents!! Don't you see?!!
[Malak rushes over and strikes Rafa across the face.]
MALAK: That's ridiculous!!
[Rafa turns to him.]
RAFA: You know what he did! What he did to me! I KNOW you know!!
MALAK: Don't say any more! Otherwise, I...
[A ninja appears from behind a building. Malak moves such that he might be addressed.]
RIOVANES NINJA: So here you are, Malak. He'll be here soon.
[More troops gather.]
MALAK: I know. It's all set....
RAFA: Malak....
[All turn as somebody approaches.]
NINJA: Here he comes! Heretic Ramza!
MALAK: Rafa!!
[Rafa runs from the walled cluster of building in which they have been talking. She approaches Ramza's company.]
RAFA: Help!!
[BATTLE BEGINS]
RAMZA: You! You're that man! You're supposed to be waiting at Riovanes Castle!
MALAK: That was what the Grand Duke said! I'll prove we can beat you without the Shrine Knights!
NINJA: Malak, what's going on? Did Rafa betray us?
MALAK: Forget Rafa! I'll manage this myself!! You just worry about killing Ramza!
NINJA: But, how're you going to explain this to the Grand Duke?
MALAK: I said forget about it! If you say a word about Rafa to him, you'll never breathe again!
RAMZA: Sister? Killing your sister!?
[ONCE MALAK IS INJURED]
MALAK: Damn, I hate retreating like this!
[Malak disappears magically.]
[IF RAFA IS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS AND MALAK IS PRESENT]
RAFA: B... brother... Malak.
MALAK: Urgh!!

RAFA: M-Malak.. help me...
[BATTLE ENDS]
RAMZA: Are you all right?

RAMZA: If they return, we're in trouble. Let's hide!
